Panasonic today introduced the Toughbook CF-H2, fully rugged tablet PC second-generation specially designed for field workers. CF-H2 sets new standards for ease of use, connectivity and productivity, becoming the fundamental tool for mobile and field workers who need to stay productive even in harsh environments and need constant access to their applications and their data. A fully rugged tablet and ultra-light, ideal for field workers in the utilities, logistics, workshops, railways and aviation, as well as for employees to store and market research.
Panasonic Toughbook CF-H2, Rugged Tablet with Intel Core i5-2557M
With the latest Intel Core i5-2557M (1.7GHz) Ultra Low Voltage with Intel vPro and HD 3000 graphics for enhanced multimedia capabilities, the performance of CF-H2 have been improved by over 400% compared to its predecessor, CF -H1. CF-H2 is ideal for field applications that require a lot of energy, such as GIS, CAD and mobile diagnostic tools. The RAM has been increased to 2 gigabytes standard, optionally expandable to 8 gigabytes, while the hard disk drive is 160 gigabytes with the option to edit it with a 128-gigabyte SSD.
CF-H2 is designed for workers who filed functions need to be able to multi-task and keep the device with one hand. A rugged design and lightweight (approx. 1, 58kg) and a handle simple to use, even in dual touch model (digitizer and touchscreen), able to keep down the temperature of the surface thanks to the ‘innovative system for heat dissipation.

CF-H2 always ensures that the screen provides the right level of brightness for optimal viewing in all conditions, both external and internal environments. To get the best possible visibility, CF-H2 uses a display of 10.1 “Transflective Plus with Panasonic technology. This mode of operation allows a reduction of energy consumption and improve battery life since it requires no back light in bright environments. The result is a significant improvement, equivalent to the brightness transflective 6.000nit in an environment of 200K lx. CF-H2 also incorporates a circular polarizer to reduce glare.
For maximum productivity at work, field workers must perform several tasks eed CF-H2 is perfect for their needs. There are also optional barcode data capture needs. To take photographs in the field, the CF-H2 Field can be equipped with an optional auto-aim and a 2.0 megapixel camera with LED light with high brightness. The field workers also often need to connect the device interfaces with devices to record information or diagnostic purposes. The CF-H2 perfectly meets these needs with a USB 2.0 port, LAN and serial port (optional USB 2.0 port instead of a second LAN port) directly integrated into the device.
The CF-H2 is also equipped with all necessary options to ensure that data is always safe on the field. For added security, you can also get a quick user authentication using the optional fingerprint reader. The Toughbook CF-H2 also offers an optional smart card contactless / RFID reader, compliant with ISO 14443 type A and B, or a smartcard reader in contact, covered and sealed with a special closure for maximum protection and security.
To allow mobile workers to stay in touch with the site when they are in motion, the Toughbook CF-H2 includes WLAN, 3G (optional), Bluetooth and GPS (optional) for navigation and planning of activities. To improve the data transfer capability, you can integrate – as an optional component – the module F5521gw Ericsson HSPA + with wireless-ready connection manager resulting in a significant increase in download speeds up to 21Mbps. Available on request, Panasonic Toughbook CF-H2 can also be used in mode-Anti-Theft Protection with the latest Intel ATP.
To ensure that mobile workers are to have a device that can last for as long as required by their business even in cases where access is not available to the current, the CF-H2 has a duration of 6.5 hours (MobileMark 2007, 60 units), with two hot-swappable interchangeable battery, high-capacity battery Panasonic developed internally by the division. The CF-H2 charging its two batteries at the same time and in parallel mode so as to allow a faster charge time (approx 3 hours).
All units also use the technology Panasonic Power Management Utilities for maximizing energy efficiency by managing all relevant resources required by the CPU to each task or function depending on the definition of individual user profiles. To maximize the efficiency of field workers, the CF-H2 Panasonic also includes the Quick Boot Manager feature that allows you to reduce the time to boot up the device to about 15 seconds.
Featuring a magnesium alloy coating on the inside, and a scratch-resistant shell Panasonic, the CF-H2 is confirmed as one of the most resistant rugged tablet currently available on the market. With a HDD against shock and rugged coating systems to optimize protection from falls, the tablet CF-H2 offers an excellent level of protection that allows for optimal use in harsh environments.
In parallel to the CF-H2 Field, Panasonic will also introduce the CF-H2 for the healthcare industry. The CF-H2 Health, whose characteristics will be announced in the near future, like the CF-H2, it will mark for greater power and durability, ease of use and ability to optimize and maintain the specific features of the tablet for the health sector. These include testing and certification to meet the standards of hygiene in hospitals, can be wiped clean from different cloths and liquid disinfectants, as well as a secure and intuitive platform for managing the barcode in the medical field (BCMA), the recording and review of electronic medical data (EMR).
To ensure that existing customers can continue to use the existing peripheral equipment, the new CF-H2 is compatible with many devices of the CF-H1 in order to provide stability of the product life cycle in the long term. Each Toughbook has a three-year warranty on hardware, repair schedules of 96 hours and 5-year warranty for additional parts. The range of CF-H2 is available from July 2011.
