If all of the roadmap is confirmed, over the next six months, the solid-state drives will reach new levels of performance, which will be accompanied by a considerable drop in price. The new units will be developed on the Intel and SandForce latest generation capacity, at least on paper, to ensure high-speed read and write.

Plextor has, in this context, yesterday announced the second generation of its SSDs: M2S. The units, developed with form factor 2.5-inch, will be distributed in denominations of 64, 128 and 256 GB. These are the last generation of old solutions, which in a few months will be replaced by new models.

According to the specifications the flagship model will be able to ensure a sequential read speed of a sequential write to 480MB/se equal to 330MB / s. The speed reduction in 420MB/se 210MB / s for the 128GB model and 370MB/se 110MB / s for the disc to 64GB. It is noteworthy operating speed, but in line with those of the latest generation of SSD.

The models in the series will also feature M2S 6Gbps SATA connection, in addition to 128MB of DDR3 memory as cache. The units will be sold with a warranty of 3 years and a copy of Acronis True Image, which is useful to clone your disk.

The information currently available does not reveal details of the controller used: analyzing the speed of reading and writing stated is reasonable to think that this is the Marvel model 9174, also used by Corsair for its line P3. Plextor models should arrive on the European market over the next month.
